**Note about federal data removal**
**Please note that due to recent executive orders, a significant amount of freely-available data has been, or may have been, removed from Federal agency websites. Additional removals may occur in the future**
Federal data should still be available via resources like PolicyMap and Social Explorer. State and city level data should also still be available from local level government agencies.
In addition we have created a guide called Finding and Preserving Government Data Archive. This has links to data that has been rescued and preserved by different organizations outside of the government.
Government Sources
- Congress.gov This link opens in a new windowIndexes Congressional Reports and the Congressional Record (which includes roll call votes). Tracks legislation from the introduction through committee referral and back to the House or Senate for debate.
- CQ Almanac with Archives This link opens in a new windowAuthoritative analysis on the major legislation and actions of Congress. Access is from 1945-present.
- CQ Researcher plus Archive This link opens in a new windowDetailed reports on important public policy and social issues, for example women's health, education, public financing, etc.
Data Sources
- Annual Survey of School System FinancesIncludes education finance data, including revenues, expenditures, debt, and assets of elementary and secondary public school systems in all states and the District of Columbia.
- Civil Rights Data CollectionCRDC collects data on civil rights indicators related to access and barriers to educational opportunity at the early childhood through grade 12 levels. The collection includes data about: Enrollment Demographics, Preschool, Math & Science Courses, Advanced Placement, SAT & ACT, Discipline, School Expenditures, Teacher Experience.
- Connecticut Education DataOffers access to data on education in Connecticut: School District Strategic School Profiles, school staffing and salaries, graduation rates, special education programs, etc.
- Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System (IPEDS)IPEDS is a system of surveys designed to collect data from all primary providers of postsecondary education. Study components include earned degrees/completions, fall enrollment, staff, finance, institutional characteristics, salaries, tenure, and fringe benefits of full-time instructional faculty.
- National Center for Education StatisticsNCES is the primary federal entity for collecting and analyzing data related to education in the U.S. and other nations.
- National Household Education SurveyNHES surveys are conducted about every 3 years on topics including early education, family involvement in schools, homeschooling, and adult training and education. These data may be used to analyze trends over time.
- National Teacher and Principal SurveyNTPS is a system of related questionnaires that provide descriptive data on the context of public and private elementary and secondary education.
