Educational Studies: Start Here

Encyclopedias and Dictionaries

All the sources below are reference books; some are on-line and some are print.  All the printed sources are in the reference collection which is on the A-level of the library.

Library Research in Educational Studies

Library resources in Educational Studies are used to explore the literature; scholarly articles and books, statistical data ( historical and contemporary), research reports produced by both government agencies (national, state, and local) and non-profit institutions (for ex., The Pew Foundation).

Pre - Research

Begin your research in an unfamiliar topic by learning about the background of your subject.  Specialized encyclopedias, like the ones in the left box, will identify the current issues, state of the research and historical context of your topic.  They will also identify keywords that can be used in your database searches. Finally, the attached bibliographies identify important research on your topic and the identify of scholars who specialize in your topic.  Search their names in the databases to locate more recent research.
